Charles Russo is an award-winning journalist based in San Francisco. He is a freelance writer and photographer whose work has appeared with the likes of Rolling Stone, VICE, and San Francisco Magazine.
He is a former staff photographer for the Half Moon Bay Review & the SF Bay Guardian, and worked as an editor in the White House Photo Office. As a freelance writer, Charles has won three first place news writing awards with the Bay Area’s Peninsula Press Club.
In July of 2016, he released his first book – Striking Distance: Bruce Lee and the Dawn of Martial Arts in America – which chronicles the formative days of a young Bruce Lee amid the heated atmosphere of the trailblazing martial arts scene on San Francisco Bay.
He is represented by Levine-Greenberg-Rostan Literary Agency. Current clients include Google, Stanford University, and VICE Media.
